Editor basics

The Flints editor is block-based: every paragraph, heading, list, and table in your note is a separate block. Blocks can be moved, converted, and duplicated.

Autosave#

There is no save button, and none is needed. A few seconds after you stop typing, Flints saves. The top bar shows Saved.

Adding a block#

Three ways:

1. Press Enter at the end of a line to start a new paragraph.
2. Press / and pick a block type from the slash menu.
3. Click the + button beside a block.

The block menu#

Hover beside a block and two buttons appear on the left. Click ⠿:

• Turn into — convert a paragraph to a heading, a list to a quote, and so on. The text inside is preserved.
• Move up / Move down — reorder the block.
• Duplicate — create an exact copy.
• Copy as Markdown — put the block on the clipboard as Markdown, handy for pasting into another app.
• Delete — remove the block entirely.

Dragging blocks#

Press and hold the ⠿ handle and drag up or down. A line shows where the block will land. Release to drop it there.

To cancel mid-drag, press Esc before releasing.

There is a keyboard equivalent: Alt + Shift + ↑ or ↓.

The selection toolbar#

Select any text and a toolbar appears above it: bold, italic, strikethrough, underline, highlight, code, colour, and link. See text formatting for details.

Find and replace#

Inside the editor, Ctrl + F opens the find-and-replace panel.

Word count#

The number of words and characters is shown below the editor.

Cover image#

Hover over the space above the title and click Add cover. You can upload an image or point at a URL. Drag the cover to reposition it.
