Backlinks
Every note knows what points at it — without you doing anything.
A backlink is the reverse side of a wikilink. If note A links to B, then B
automatically gains a backlink to A.
Where to find them#
Open any note and scroll down. There are two sections:
- Outgoing links — what this note points at.
- Backlinks — what points at this note.
Click any name to jump to that note.
Why this matters#
This is the main thing that separates Flints from an ordinary notes app.
Imagine you have a note called Focus. Over months you write [[Focus]] in all
sorts of other notes — book summaries, meeting notes, your own stray thoughts.
Later you open Focus, and the backlinks section holds everything you ever
connected to that subject. You never collected it. It collected itself.
The connection map#
Below the backlinks there is a small map showing this note and its nearest neighbours as a graph. For the whole picture, open the knowledge map.
When you rename a note#
Every link pointing at it is rewritten automatically in all your other
notes, aliases included — [[Old title|the alias]] keeps its alias and just
changes target. There is nothing to fix by hand.
